Building Information Modeling (BIM)

DC Engineering is committed to Building Information Modeling (BIM). Our structural engineering group leads this integrated design effort with the creation of a centralized building model. Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineers and designers collaborate with this model to simulate a Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) team effort. Pushing BIM into the VDC environment provides DC Engineering an important leadership role in collaboration of our engineers with architects, contractors, and owners.

VDC is an integrated design-build process of virtually constructing multiple trade disciplines in 3D BIM during the design/ pre-construction phase of a project. This provides a platform to share critical information to support decision-making about a facility from the earliest conceptual stages, through design and construction. DC Engineering has found that collaborating with a model has helped identify and resolve interferences prior to construction, which potentially reduces costs during construction. 

The BIM model also provides optimum coordination and visualization of the building systems thus identifying the most efficient way to achieve the construction goals. Depending on the detail level desired and design schedule, a developed centralized model provides the appropriate people the right tools to identify challenges and minimize conflicts throughout the project.
